CR-CPT: Coiled Rod-Cone Penetration Test

The Wassoc CR-CPT (Coiled Rod-Cone Penetration Test) system, available in a 2cm^2 or 5cm^2 variant, is a compact and efficient solution for in-situ subsea soft-sediment characterization. Designed for integration with small subsea vehicles, the CR-CPT combines a lightweight frame, proprietary high-friction feed roller, and coiled-rod drive to deliver a constant penetration rate of 2cm/s. With a maximum thrust of 20kN and penetration depth of up to 25m, it provides reliable cone resistance, sleeve friction, and pore pressure data through an RS-485 link.

Available as either a dicrete tool or a fully integrated subsea vehicle, the CR-CPT can be configured with complete power, telemetry, and handling systems—including winch, umbilical, and A-frame/LARS—for turnkey operation from ships of opportunity. Its low-pressure, low-flow hydraulic design ensures power efficiency and adaptability, making it an ideal solution for high-resolution geotechnical investigations at depths up to 2000m.
